Timing your heating to off-peak periods can deliver significant savings.

14–24%
per year

Yearly savings achieved by HeatAdapt during 04.2025 – 03.2026 across 90% of users.

up to 31%
per month

With highest monthly savings recorded in April 2026 in the Netherlands.

Savings are based on a 12-month study of more than ten Nordic homes with HeatAdapt installed, in collaboration with university researchers. Percentages refer to electricity consumed by the heat pump at dynamic prices. HeatAdapt also factors in time-varying grid tariffs where they apply (typically a smaller contribution). Actual savings depend on building characteristics, the heating system, consumption habits and the fluctuation of dynamic electricity prices.

Convenient

HeatAdapt automatically determines the most efficient heating pattern for each day by analysing dynamic electricity prices, weather forecasts, and the building's thermal properties.

Environment

By automatically reducing energy use during peak periods, the load on the electricity grid is also reduced. This way, we can consume more green energy.

How it works

HeatAdapt shifts your heating to lower-cost periods.

HeatAdapt fetches the daily dynamic electricity prices and the weather forecast, then plans the consumption around the cheapest, greenest time windows.

The annual savings are calculated on the basis of a 12-month average savings percentage. Savings were modelled using the most volatile Nord Pool price regions. Actual energy savings may be higher or lower due to the characteristics of the building and heating system, the consumption habits of the residents and fluctuations in dynamic electricity market prices in the specific region.

Compatibility

HeatAdapt is compatible with air-to-water and ground source heat pumps from 25+ brands.

Note: control functions vary based on the heat pump model.

Heat pump types

Air-to-water

Designed for both monoblock and split type heat pumps.

Ground source

Compatible with inverter and on-off type models.

Hybrid setups

HeatAdapt requires an air-to-water or ground source heat pump as your heat source, and a dynamic price (spot price) electricity contract. With a dynamic contract the electricity price changes throughout the day every 15 or 60 minutes.

The smart module works by taking into account the dynamic electricity prices (EPEX SPOT / Nord Pool), grid tariff, and weather forecast. HeatAdapt selects the most efficient heating and hot water production patterns based on the day's spot prices. This ensures heat pump consumption is scheduled during more favourable periods, minimising the impact of peak prices.

To assess the savings for Nordic homes, a study in collaboration with university researchers examined more than ten buildings and modelled the average savings when using the HeatAdapt module. Based on the study and Baltic electricity prices in 2024, the results showed average savings of 14% to 24% per year on electricity costs. Monthly savings varied due to fluctuations in electricity market prices, reaching up to 31% per month.

Savings from the HeatAdapt module are specific to each building and will depend on the level of insulation in the building, the heating system as a whole, consumption patterns and future dynamic electricity (spot) prices on the electricity market.

The study was carried out in cooperation with university researchers throughout the 2023/24 heating season. During the course of the study, the behaviour of different heat pumps and buildings under HeatAdapt module management was measured in detail.

Each day HeatAdapt retrieves the dynamic electricity market (spot) prices and takes into account the weather forecast, grid tariffs, and building and heating system characteristics. Based on this, an individual daily schedule is created for the heat pump.

Based on the heating pattern, HeatAdapt manages the heat pump throughout the day, reducing consumption during the most expensive periods and increasing power during cheaper periods.

Control functions vary based on the heat pump model. HeatAdapt will use all the possible control options provided by the heat pump manufacturer via smart grid or similar inputs to maximise savings.

To find the optimal heating pattern, the HeatAdapt team, in collaboration with university researchers, conducted a study during the 2023/24 heating period, measuring the behaviour of more than ten Nordic homes with variable-rate electricity contracts.

HeatAdapt will increase the self-consumption of energy produced by solar panels.

For houses with solar panels, HeatAdapt considers the solar forecast along with the parameters of the solar installation and adjusts the heating pattern to maximise self-consumption.

HeatAdapt will also optimise domestic hot water (DHW) production if your heat pump is set up to heat the hot water tank. That means savings continue outside the heating season too, all year round.
